Sara Lamens studied International Politics in Gent (B) and Aix-en-Provence (F) and after a few years of living and working abroad in post-conflict regions in the Balkans and the Middle East, she decided to study Photography at LUCA school of Arts in Ghent (B) and later combined this with Drawing and Creative Writing.
She challenges the photography process, mainly analogue, in a very physical way, in and out of the darkroom, combining layers and drawing and ink printing.
Her photography is often in response to her immediate surrounding, exploring the blurring lines between fiction, facts and emotions, between intimate and conceptual, between abstract and figurative. Recently she started to explore the possibilities of the combination of writing and the image, within an open narrative.
She also believes in multidisciplinary co-creation and experimentation between visual artists, writers, academics and makers.
