Melanie Deboutte

MD by Christophe Vander Eecken

Melanie Deboutte (1988, Roeselare) studied Art History at the universities of Leuven and Gent, where she specialized in Visual Arts.

She gained experience in various fields within the art world: a.o. as an all-round assistant at Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens (Deurle), a communicator and guide at S.M.A.K. and Herbert Foundation (Gent) and a production coordinator for several smaller and larger exhibitions. She textually contributed to a few exhibition catalogues, such as ‘Sint-Jan’ (2012) and ‘Middle Gate ’13 Geel’ (2014), and enjoys writing on behalf of and together with artists.

She earned her stripes as an assistant curator for Jan Hoet during the last exhibition he would make, ‘The Sea’ (2014) in Ostend, and the art route ‘PASS’ (2015) she organized together with Jan Hoet Junior and Kris Martin in four rural villages in the Flemish Ardennes.

Melanie currently works as an assistant to Belgian photographer Dirk Braeckman. Next to this, she is working on a few projects and exhibitions of her own. She lives and works in Gent.
