Oostende, 1953. Living in Bruges.
Photographer, owner at 44 Gallery, organizer, curator and mentor.
Luc Rabaey discovered his own creative talents at the age of 45 only, while wisely choosing for photography. Looking at his latter realizations we can say he has quite made up for his somewhat late start. Organizing photography-exhibitions led to the start-up of his 44 Gallery in Bruges, which is now six years young but has already shown about 99 photographers from Belgium and abroad. Intensity, authenticity and a touch of magic are his most crucial criteria for the selection of photographical works.
His gallery hosts and promotes a number of valuable oeuvres in Belgian photography: Franky Verdickt, Dieter De Lathauwer, Paul D’Haese, Peter De Bruyne, Giannina Urmeneta Ottiker, Julie Van der Vaart, Peter Waterschoot and Sarah Van Marcke.
In his YET shows (Young Emerging Talents) Luc Rabaey manages to disclose young talents between emerging and breakthrough, e.g. Max Pinckers, Athos Burez, Maroesjka Lavigne, Titus Simoens, Marine Dricot, Julie Van der Vaart en Tom Callemin.
He also showed the work of renomated artists as John Vink, Martin Parr, Bernard Plossu, Bert Danckaert, Filip Dujardin, Gert Jochems and Annelies de Mey.
He curated De Lichte Kamer, Brussels Parliament and Belgian Street Photography in BELvue Museum, Brussels and he coördinates and curates Bruges Photo. And now from June until september he brings us Intimacy under the milky Way.
