Katrien De Blauwer’s world is devoid of time and reason. Things are almost never what they seem: she constructs her own universe by cutting and pasting. She’s interested in grief, loss and sorrow, those corners of the human condition that hurt the most. But her compositions are broader than that, they allow all kinds of wonderful interpretations.
Her work reminds me of John Stezaker’s collages, but not in a derivative way. She recently had a very nice expo in a brand new art space in Antwerp: Tique Art Space and she published a brilliant book: I do not want to disappear silently into the night.
